The Employers’ Confederation of Zimbabwe (EMCOZ), held their HR Indaba from 15 – 17 June 2016 at Cutty Sark Hotel in Kariba under the theme, ‘Making the HR Function Strategic. The ZIMDEF Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Fredrick Mandizvidza was amongst the invited guest speakers in the session which focused on the, Effect of National Policy Initiatives on HR Management. In his presentation, Mr. Mandizvidza unpacked the 2016 A’Level STEM Initiative, clearly explained how this strategic human capital initiative is aimed at transforming the economy of Zimbabwe, focusing on jobs of the future. He highlighted to the HR practitioners how the issue of STEM is aimed at presenting a proactive approach to the changes in the global world that will affect the type of industries that will be present in the future.
During the question and answer session, the EMCOZ Director, Mr. Mufukare said that the presentation had assisted in understanding the vision of the initiative as well as its contribution towards the industrialization of the Zimbabwean economy. The HR practitioners applauded the work being done by ZIMDEF and the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development in developing the relevant human capital which will be able to drive new innovations that will revive the industry and the economy at large.
